1812 Productions Apprenticeship

1812 Productions: Philadelphia’s All-Comedy Theatre Company is now accepting applications for the 1812 Apprenticeship, a full-time position designed for an early-career theatre professional or recent college graduate interested in gaining experience in the running of a professional theatre company.  The 1812 Apprentice will work closely with the 1812 staff, rotating through departments to learn and gain experience in every aspect of the company.  Responsibilities and opportunities include but are not limited to:

 ARTISTIC

  • Being in the writer’s room for the creation of our annual political humor show This Is The Week That Is

  • Reading and reviewing plays for future seasons

  • Serving as an assistant to the director or stage manager for new play workshops

  • Assisting with dramaturgical research

 PRODUCTION

  • Serving as the assistant to the Production Manager

  • Run crew for all of our mainstage productions

  • Assisting with load-ins and load-outs for each production

  • Sitting in on design and production meetings

 EDUCATION

  • Visiting our in-school Education programs at South Philadelphia High School and the Widener School for Children with Disabilities

  • Assisting with the creation of educational packages for show-specific workshops

 DEVELOPMENT

  • Training in basic grant writing and development software

  • Attendance at one meeting of the 1812 Board of Directors

 PR and MARKETING

  • Assisting with social media campaigns, photo shoots, and creation of video content

  • Assisting with archival organization and accessibility

  • Assisting with copy editing and content creation

 FRONT OF HOUSE

  • Training on our ticketing software and administrative ticket sales

  • Assisting with answering calls during office hours


In addition to gaining experience in each of these areas, the 1812 Apprentice will receive further professional development and networking opportunities in the form of lunches/meetings with professional artists and administrators, complimentary tickets to 1812 and other Philadelphia theatre productions, and mentorship from 1812 staff.

SCHEDULE AND COMPENSATION

The 1812 Apprenticeship is a 35 hour a week position. Depending on which department the Apprentice is assisting in at any given time, those hours may include evenings and weekends. 

The 1812 Apprenticeship begins August 4th, 2024 and runs through May 9th, 2025.  Only candidates who are able to commit to this full time frame will be considered. Transportation and housing are not provided. 

 The 1812 Apprenticeship pays $550 a week.


TIMELINE

Applications for the 1812 Apprenticeship will be accepted until 5pm on April 15th, 2024. Interviews will be held the week of April 22nd and a decision will be made by May 3rd, 2024.
