FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE- 1812 Productions Announces 2010-2011 Season!
Philadelphia, PA- 1812 Productions is pleased to announce it 2010-2011 season. 1812 Productions continues its dedication to original works with three world premieres, and couples them with an American comedy classic. In a first for 1812 Productions, the entirety of 1812 Productions 2010-2011 season will take place at Plays & Players Theatre, 1714 Delancey Street. The 2010-2011 season will also find 1812 producing the second half of its season in repertory, another first for Philadelphia’s All Comedy Theatre Company.

The 2010-2011 season opener will be the world premiere production of Jennifer Childs’ first original solo work, Why I’m Scared of Dance by Jen Childs. Best known for her premiere comedy creations (Always a Lady, Cherry Bomb, This Is The Week That Is, Double Down), Ms. Childs takes to the stage to give the audience a one on one lesson in jazz, hip hop, ballet, and why working at the barre is not quite as much fun as working at the bar. A moving and self-effacing comedy, Why I’m Scared of Dance by Jen Childs is about turning the choreography life gives you into the dance that only you were born to do. Why I’m Scared of Dance by Jen Childs will run from October 7th thru October 31st, 2010.

Back by popular demand (and here to stay!), 1812 Productions perennial smash holiday show This Is The Week That Is returns for its fifth year to give you the breakdown on local, national, and world events as only 1812 can! Stimulus packages, nuclear arms, healthcare, dog curbing in South Philly—they’re all fair game in a script that changes nightly (and sometimes even at intermission!) A part of the June and Steve Wolfson Family Foundation Series, This Is The Week That Is will run from December 2nd thru December 31st, 2010.

Our season closes with two hilarious takes on one vintage comedy!
In a production that was destined to be, the best comedy team in Philadelphia takes on the mother of all comedy teams in history. Neil Simon’s comedy classic Laughter on the 23rd Floor is based on the legendary writer’s room for the variety comedy program Your Show of Shows. A fictionalized account of how writers Mel Brooks, Woody Allen, Carl Reiner, Larry Gelbart, and others pitted wit to wit to create comedy history, Laughter on the 23rd Floor is Simon’s hilarious homage to the history-making art of bringing great comedy to life.

A perfect match for the behind the scenes comedy of Laughter on the 23rd Floor, 1812 Productions moves in front of the curtain to present Our Show Of Shows, an original work inspired by Your Show of Shows and featuring vintage and original material performed in 1812’s signature style. Taking our cue from Sid Caesar, Imogene Coca, Carl Reiner, and Howard Morris of Your Show of Shows, Our Show of Shows honors this unpredictable and sophisticated ensemble and the one-of-a-kind brand of comedy that they perfected.

Raising the comedy stakes, 1812 Productions will perform Laughter on the 23rd Floor and Our Show of Shows in repertory, treating audiences to both a look inside the drama of making comedy and the onstage escapades of a comedy troupe at its finest. Laughter on the 23rd Floor will run on select dates from April 7th thru May 8th, 2011. Our Show of Shows will run on select dates from April 21st thru May 15th, 2011.
